Pray, Listen, & Obey

Ephesians 2:14, NLT: “For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us.”

The Pastors and Christian Leaders of San Antonio

The polarization present in our nation pressures people to follow an Elephant or a Donkey. For the people of God, though, our first allegiance must be to follow the Lamb. Both political parties have different strengths and weaknesses, yet neither represents the Kingdom of Jesus. We believe that by choosing and prioritizing Jesus above all else, we can find unity around the following principles of the Kingdom of God and as we choose to hold these higher than any political affiliation.

I. CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST: Our first and ultimate allegiance is to Jesus. Our words, actions, and opinion must be submitted to the authority of his will and his ways. Galatians 2:20, Matthew 6:33

II. THE GOSPEL IS OUR MESSAGE: The gospel must supersede all other messages, opinions and priorities. The gospel alone brings unity—regardless of race or ethnicity— creating a new citizenship and family, Kingdom (identity) that is accessed by the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 2:11-21.

III. SALT AND LIGHT IS OUR MISSION: We believe we are to live as aliens, a royal priesthood, holy nation, people for God’s possession 1Peter 2:19-11, Matthew 5:13-14

IV. UNITY IS ESSENTIAL: We believe that unity among believers is essential for the world to believe in Jesus. We recognize that unity is not the same uniformity. John 17:21

V. DISAGREEING WITHOUT BEING DISPARAGING : We believe we are to accept those whose faith is of different strength and not argue or quarrel about matters that are disputable or are not Core Faith issues. Romans 14:1

VI.OUR IDENTITY IS IN CHRIST ALONE: We believe a Kingdom divided against itself leads to destruction. Mk.3:24 Divisions based on race, nationality, external religious acts or social standing are contrary to the love of Christ and our new identity in Him. Col.3:10-11.

VII.PRAY FOR GOVERNING LEADERSHIP: God has placed ruling authorities over us and it is good to live harmoniously with these authorities when they are not in conflict with Jesus’ commands. We must pray for these leaders. (Romans 13:1-2) (Acts 4:18-22)

VIII. JESUS IS OUR COMMANDER AND CHIEF: We believe it is our hope in Jesus that anchors our soul, all other hopes disappoint. Hebrews 6:19 We believe we are to avoid putting our trust in World Leaders Psalm 146:3

IX.TO BE PEACEMAKERS IS OUR PURSUIT: We believe we are to make every effort towards peace and mutual edification and everything that does not come from faith is sin. Romans 14:19-23

X. LOVE PEOPLE BEYOND LABELS: We believe “We love because He first loved us and If anyone says, “I Love God,” but hates his brother he is a Liar. We believe we are called to Love our Neighbor and our Enemy and that Love is the fulfillment of the Law. Romans 13:10 1Jn.4:19-20.

As a pastor or Christian leader in the city of San Antonio, TX, I endorse to the above Kingdom principles and agree to do the following: To encourage one another, pray for one another, and serve one another. We commit to preach, teach and model unity for our communities during this time of unprecedented division. Knowing that God uses disruption to manifest His glory we call the Church of San Antonio to let go of that which divides and seeks the higher Ground of Jesus’ Kingdom evidenced by unity and love for one another. In Essentials Unity, In Non-essentials freedom, In all things love—St. Augustine

There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all EPHESIANS 4:3-6 (NIV)

It is why we want to be a church that looks like heaven on earth: every tribe, tongue and nation. Jesus bridges gaps between people groups by bringing justice and reconciliation which happens only by the Gospel.
The lives of black people matter, and your voice matters. Speak up against racism and injustice. We stand with one another believing for you. If you have been hurt by racism, inequality, prejudice, bullying, abuse then let us know. Share your story with us.

We want to pray with you and for you!
